The way we learn to start & grow a business is massively flawed.
First of all, there’s a lot of conflicting information out there (all being promoted by someone who wants to sell you on THEIR program). So you hear things like –
- the key to doubling your business is to block out your time and set 90-day goals;
- the key to growing your business is to be recognized by getting published/being a guest on well-known shows/podcasts/etc.;
- the key to doubling your income is to improve your sales skills;
- you can’t help others until you help yourself so fix your mindset and the rest will fall into place;
- the key to a successful business is unique branding; and so on and so on and so on.
If you were to believe the hype, you’d spend 4 years in programs like these before you made a single dollar of income.
But deep down we do believe the hype. So we try to do ALL these things on our own, without the help of programs we can’t afford to enroll in.
And the result is a very slow-growing business with a million scattered pieces that aren’t working together.
Be honest – how many ideas have you been filing away in notebooks, folders, or Trello boards because you know the idea is gold but you don’t have time to implement it right now? (Raise your hand in the comments if this is you!!)
How many of those ideas have you actually tried to implement right away and when they flopped you were no further along in your biz?
There are a million ways you could grow your business. All those experts and gurus are right that their unique specialty is going to help *someone*.
But unfortunately it’s not going to help every one of the 2000 people who signed up for that program, nor the 10,000 people who wanted to but didn’t, who are now struggling to figure it out on their own.
So what’s the solution? (Way to go Mollie, now I have a new problem I didn’t even know about. You better have a solution for this!)

How To Grow Your Business As Quickly & Easily As Possible
Almost any strategy will work if you see it through to the end. Start with something that sounds FUN. Do you love the idea of being a guest on other people’s podcasts or writing articles for HuffPo? (If not, just substitute the thing that DOES light you up!)
Take a look at where you want to end up and see if this will help you get there. If your goal is to make $10k/month from 1:1 coaching clients, how can you use guest posting/being a guest to reach your goal?
Do you need credibility? “As seen on…” is a good way to establish credibility. So that’s one step closer to your goal.
The audiences you’ll reach by being a guest, are they filled with people who need a coach like you and can afford your prices? If so, how can you get their attention with your guest spot and how will you pull them closer to build a relationship (that may lead to a sale someday)?
Stay Focused & Use This Path To Meet All Your Goals
If, in your mind, you follow the path through to the end and see how it can help you reach your big goal while having fun being a guest, then do it! But FOCUS on this one path and make it work for you. Don’t try to do 4 other biz growth things at the same time.
For example, if you want to also grow your list at the same time, how can you achieve that by using your guest spots instead of adding on a whole separate goal and workload?
Find out how to leverage your guest spots effectively so that you grow your list at the same time which will nurture your new leads into potential clients.
Which Path Is The Right Path For You?
If, by following it though in your mind, it takes you off the path of your big goal, then maybe that’s not the right path for you at this time. Maybe that can wait until you’ve reached your big goal. Or maybe it’s a sign that you’re chasing the wrong goal!
Being strategic about how you spend your time and energy is the KEY to reaching your goals before you burnout and give up.
Working towards one goal at a time will help you see results instead of spreading yourself too thin and getting discouraged when things don’t happen quickly.
