You’ve heard it a zillion times already – “Know Your Why.” If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, online business owner, or the one to beat out more qualified job candidates in a field where you have zero experience, you “must” know your why. This one detail is what sets businesses apart, allows your message to be heard over all the noise and makes YOU visible in an overcrowded, over-saturated market.
Without your Why, your brand is boring…
As you search the job boards, sign up for another online class or dream about living your ideal lifestyle, have you stopped to ask *Why* you want change in your career/life? It’s easy to come up with the surface reasons like, I’m bored at work; I hate my bosses; Work isn’t challenging anymore; I want to travel more; I want a more fulfilling career; I want to make a difference in the world; I want to quit my job and start my own business; or any other of the endless possibilities.
But what happens when you dig deeper? Why do you really want to change your career or quit your job? And why now? What makes you want to find answers now instead of waiting 6 months or another year?
- – Are you tired of seeing other people who are living the dream lifestyle, traveling and working off their laptop and wishing that was you?
- – Are your kids growing up too fast and you want to spend more time with them and less time at work before it’s too late?
- – Perhaps management has passed you up for a much deserved promotion for the umpteenth time and you just can’t take another year at this place?
- – Or maybe you’ve always known in your heart that you’re destined for bigger things?
For me, I’d reached a point where I couldn’t wait any longer to save for retirement and I needed to make more money asap. Plus I knew if I had more money for myself, then I would have more money to make a bigger difference in the world, to donate my time and money to help make the world a better place through philanthropy and volunteer work. If I could do that while traveling the world and working off my laptop, then that was just gourmet organic ice cream on top of premium success cake!
Whatever is driving you to seek a new path in life, dig deep into the heart of it and figure out what the real source of your motivation is. Because, when you know your why, everything you do has more purpose, more energy, more success.
You’re probably going to hear this phrase on the internet A LOT – Know Your Why. I read it a million times when I started out and I answered this question a hundred times before I finally understood why this is so important. My why was “So I can make a difference; so I can go back to being my old self and make the world a better place to live; so I can follow these insane creative energies that are also pushing me to do MORE with my life and never settle for a boring office job…” But still these were just words on a page. I didn’t understand the depth of how this emotion could elevate my brand and my business above the plethora of other coaches out there. This video drove the idea home for me and I can tell you that everything I do now will have more meaning, more soul:
